How we got here

Our Story

The short version — the long one takes a bottle of wine.

How we met

A friend's braai in Stellenbosch, in the middle of a heatwave. Michael was manning the fire and burning everything on it. Jessica took over the tongs, saved the boerewors, and neither of us went home when we said we would.

Our first date

Coffee that was supposed to be an hour and became the whole afternoon, then dinner, then walking through the Company's Garden until the security guards politely asked us to leave.

The proposal

Michael planned a sunrise hike up Lion's Head and Jessica complained the entire way up. He asked at the top, with the whole city waking up behind him. She said yes before he finished the sentence.

We've spent years building a life we love. Getting to stand up in front of the people who shaped it — and say this out loud — is the part we're most looking forward to. Thank you for being part of our story.

Staying over

There are rooms on the estate and several guesthouses within ten minutes in Franschhoek village. We'd gently suggest booking early — March is busy in the valley, and nobody should be driving home after the dancing.

Dress code

Garden Formal

Think elegant, romantic and comfortable enough to dance. The ceremony is on grass, so heels may want a wedge or a block. Evenings in the valley cool down quickly — bring a layer you don't mind being photographed in.

Gifts

Your presence is the best gift of all.

If you would like to give us a gift, we've created a registry to make things easy.

Questions

What should I wear?

Garden Formal.

See full details
Can I bring a plus-one?

If your invitation includes a plus-one, you'll be able to add them when you RSVP. If you're not sure, RSVP anyway and leave us a note — we'll come back to you.

Are children invited?

We love your children, but we've kept the day to adults only so that everyone — parents included — gets a proper night off. There are excellent babysitters in Franschhoek and we're happy to put you in touch.

Where do I park?

Free parking on the estate, just inside the main gate, with attendants to guide you in.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive by 14:30. The ceremony starts at 15:00 and the doors close — we'd hate for you to miss it.

Is there accommodation nearby?

Yes — on the estate itself and throughout Franschhoek village. Book early, March is busy.

Who do I contact on the day?

Please don't call us — we'll be a little busy. Sarah or Elmarie will sort you out.

Need help on the day?

Please save these numbers before you travel — reception in the valley can be patchy.
